Abstract

990,593. Yarn treatment. ONDERZOEKINGSINSTITUUT RESEARCH N.V. Nov. 26,1962, [Nov. 28, 1961], No. 44566/62. Heading D1F. A method for intertwining the filaments of a moving artificial multi-filament thread, having little (i.e. less than 40 turns/metre) or no twist, comprises directing a high velocity jet of fluid issuing from a nozzle 1 into a resonance chamber 2 which is substantially closed and has an inlet 6 which is oppsoite to and has the same shape as the nozzle exit, the distance separating the nozzle exit and chamber inlet being within the range 1 to 3 m.m. with the area of the inlet being 1 to 2. 8 times the areas of the nozzle exit, and guiding the thread which is kept at a tension of 0. 05 to 0. 3 gramper dernier between the nozzle and chamber by means of two thread guides which are so located relative to the nozzle that the line passing through the thread guides intersects the axis of the nozzle exit. The nozzle 1 and resonance chamber 2 are slidably mounted in a casing 5. which has a cover 9. Both the casing 5 and cover 9 are covered with sound insulating material 8, 10. Various dimensions of the apparatus are given. The thread material may be a polyamide, a polyester, a polyalklene, a polyacrylonitrile cellulose acetate, regenerated cellulose or the like, while the dernier of the thread may range from 10, to 20,000 or higher. The fluid may be air, nitrogen, carbon dioxide or steam. Any residual electrostatic charge may be removed with water containing a wetting agent and perhaps a sizing agent.
