Abstract

1,194,506. Knop yarns. SOC CRYLOR. 19 June, 1968 [22 June, 1967], No. 29154/68. Headings D1F and D1W. A process for the production of a knop yarn comprises introducing a core yarn and a cover yarn into a zone of turbulence, said core yarn being fed at a higher tension than the cover yarn, intermittently introducing a fluid into said zone to cause turbulence which simultaneously exerts suction on said cover yarn so that the knop effect is produced by overfeeding the cover yarn and looping it on the core yarn, and withdrawing the knop yarn from said zone. Apparatus for carrying out the process comprises a substantially rectilinear duct 12 for passage therethrough of the core yarn, and including the zone of turbulence, a second duct 13 for introducing the covering yarn and forming an acute angle with the duct 12 downstream of the zone of turbulence, and means for intermittently introducing fluid into the zone to apply suction to and cause looping of the covering yarn to produce the desired knop effect. The fluid is introduced through a duct 11 into an annular chamber having angularly directed openings 14 into the turbulent zone 15. The fluid is preferably a gas e.g. compressed air. A further yarn may also be introduced into the zone with the cover and core yarns, which cover and core yarns are preferably multifilament yarns. The fluid introduction is preferably effected at regular time intervals. The knop yarn produced may be twisted.
