Abstract

Permanent magnet alloys containing in percentage by weight .Co.10-40 .Ni.10-22 .Al.5-14 .Cu.0-10 .Ti.0-10 .Si.0-3 .Fe.balance are heat treated to produce columnar crystallization by heating them to the secondary recrystallization temperature and subjecting them to a temperature gradient in the direction of the desired structure and moving the magnet in the direction of the lower temperature zone, the region of the magnet being subjected to the temperature gradient being surrounded by a heated ceramic jacket to maintain a substantially uniform temperature over the cross-section. As shown in Fig. 2, workpiece 1 moves through high temperaure zone 2 to lower-temperature zone 3, the region subjected to the resultant temperature gradient being enclosed in ceramic jacket 4 in which are disposed heating elements 5. <PICT:0989992/C6-C7/1>
