Abstract
A process for the production of beryllium having a ductility of at least 30% between 300 and 400 DEG C. and at least 40% between 400 and 600 DEG C. comprises heating thermally reduced beryllium containing .Fe.993 parts per million .Al.663 parts per million .Si.843 parts per million .Ni.220 parts per million .Cr.110 parts per million .O.240 parts per million .Be2C.400 parts per million to above 600 DEG C., holding at a temperature between 600 and 850 DEG C. for not less than 12 hours, and cooling to room temperature. The treatment may be carried out in an atmosphere inert to beryllium, e.g. argon or a vacuum.
