Abstract
989,736. Raising liquids by gaseous pressure. CROSSLEY MACHINE CO. Inc. Aug. 2, 1961, No. 28145/61. Heading F1R. Liquid raising apparatus, e.g. for muddy liquids, comprises a plurality of units each comprising a cylinder 12 with a compressed air inlet or outlet 26 and a liquid inlet or outlet 24 controlled by a valve 60 and valves 42, 54, respectively. Liquid enters cylinder 12 under gravity until a float 30 closes port 26. Valve 60 is then electrically-actuated to admit compressed air to cylinder 12, thereby discharging the liquid via float ball valve 54 until float 30 closes port 24. Valve 60 is then set to exhaust the air from cylinder 12 to permit the entry of liquid via gravity-controlled ball valve 42, the back-pressure in the delivery line holding valve 54 closed. The units may be operated automatically in sequence and may be located within a reservoir or fed from a reservoir, as shown. Control valves 42, 54 or 42<SP>1</SP>, 54<SP>1</SP> may be mounted either as in Fig. 2 or as in Fig. 8 and are readily dismantled.
