Abstract
989,633. Frequency changers. M. C. KISSLING. Aug. 29, 1961 [Sept. 9, 1960; July 5, 1961], No. 31111/61. Heading H2A. A synchronous frequency converter has A.C. windings of both frequencies (i.e. both polenumbers) on one member, while the other member has corresponding field windings both fed with D.C. from the lower frequency winding of the converter through rectifiers. The stator carries a two-pole winding 2 and a six-pole winding 3, while the rotor carries a two-pole field winding 5, a six-pole excitation winding 6, and a squirrel cage winding 7. Windings 5 and 6 are energized in series from an exciter 8, 9, 10 over rectifiers 15 mounted on the blades of a cooling fan 14. The stator excitation winding 10 of the exciter is fed with reverse-sequence current from main stator winding 3 so that the whole unit is self-exciting. The exciter may be replaced by a static transformer. To ensure build-up the rotor maybe of hysteretic material and may be solid. The rotor 4 may be composed of an inner core of one pole number and an outer wreath of the other pole number as shown in Fig. 3. Specification 989,634 is referred to.
