Abstract
987,489. Article transferring apparatus. MORGAN CONSTRUCTION CO. May 14, 1963 [May 17, 1962], No. 19009/63. Headings B8A and B8H. An apparatus for transferring coils 2 of wire from pivotable hooks 8 of an overhead conveyer 4 on to a conveyer 16 comprises two axially movable bars 12, 12a rotatably supported in a stationary housing 28, the axes of the bars crossing but not intersecting each other and the axis of rotation passing between but not intersecting either bar. The housing 28 is mounted on an inclined frame 26 such that either bar in its lowest position is parallel with the conveyer 16. The bars 12, 12a are supported in a cylinder 30 which is rotatably mounted in bearings 38, 42 and is motor driven by means of a ring gear 36 on the outside of the bearing 38. Each bar is axially displaceable by means of hydraulic rams 94, 94a which are mounted parallel with the bars and have their piston rods 102, 102a coupled to end plates 82, 82a of rear tubular members 80 of the bars. The latter which each comprise a tip 74, forward tubular member 76, a core 78, a tie rod 84 and the rear tube 80, are roller mounted, Figs. 9, 10 (not shown) in cylindrical supports 70, 70a, 72, 72a of front and rear headers 32, 34 on the cylinder 30. The rear rollers engage flats on the tubes 80 for rotational stabilization of the bars. The rams are supplied with fluid from pipes 110 which extend from an hydraulic rotary valve 120 into the cylinder 30 by means of a pipe carrying tube 107 extending axially from and rotatable with the rear header 34. A shield 106 is provided in front of the cylinder 30 and its associated parts. In operation which may be manual or automatic one arm 12, Fig. 1, is angled upwards to engage a plurality of coils 2 whereupon the cylinder 30 is rotated for deposition of the coils on to, the conveyer 16 which at this stage is stationary. The other bar 12a, after having previously deposited its coils 2, was retracted clear of the coils but upon this rotation to the upward position, is extended to receive further coils. The 180 degrees. rotation of the cylinder 30 may be controlled by a limit switch on the ring gear 36. In automatic operation the ram actions are controlled by arms 138, 136, 136a, 138a which extend from the end plates 82, 82a to engage switches. The latter are also coupled to a time delay switch for the cylinder motor to which the motions of the conveyers 4 and 16 are related.
