Abstract

986,422. Casting processes. FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd. April 25, 1962 [May 2, 1961], No. 15922/61. Heading B3F. When casting cast iron there is located in the mould cavity a small quantity of an organic carbocyclic substance which contains in its molecule only C and H or C, H, and O, which volatilizes at the temperature of the melt and fills the mould with vapours of a non-oxidizing character. The substance may be in pellet, tablet or powder form. Examples are camphor and wholly hydrocarbon materials which contain an aromatic carbocyclic ring such as naphthalene, phenanthrene, anthracene, biphenylene, naphthacene, rubrene, pentacene, heptacene, pyrene and perylene.
