Abstract

986,327. Hydro-pneumatic suspension struts. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. Nov. 19, 1963 [Nov. 20, 1962], No.45555/63. Heading F2S. An hydro-pneumatic spring suspension strut 1 comprises an hydraulic shock absorber 2 and an air spring body 3 partly covering the shock absorber. A rolling membrane 10 seals the annular space between the air spring body 3 and a base cylinder 11, the base cylinder being mounted on the shock absorber and surrounding the same over part of its length. A chamber 11<SP>1</SP> is formed in the base cylinder and communicates through a narrow channel 19 directly surrounding the shock absorber with the interior of the air spring body. In the construction shown, the channel 19 is formed by a tube 18 which is sealed at its upper end against the base cylinder and is provided on its inner surface with individual projections 21, whereby it is centred on the outer wall of the shock absorber. The air spring communicates with the channel through an aperture 22 in the base cylinder. The air spring body is attached to the pistonrod of the hydraulic shock absorber. The movement of air through channel 19 due to the compression of the air spring acts to cool the hydraulic shock abosorber.
