Abstract
986,127. Clutch control; cams. K. HACK. Aug. 29, 1961 [Sept. 10, 1960], No. 31013/61. Headings F2K and F2L. A cam control mechanism, particularly for varying the cyclic engagement and disengagement periods of a drive clutch for a wire or stripworking machine during operation of the machine, comprises a pair of cams on a rotatable shaft, a pair of sensing members mounted in the paths of the cams and means for adjusting the angular position of at least one of the sensing members. In the form shown in Fig. 1, an electromagnetic clutch 3 is operated by solenoids 4, 5 through electric switch contacts 1, 2 actuated by cam projections 7, 8 on a rotary disc 6. The positions of members 7, 8 on disc 6 may be adjusted, while contact 2 is carried on one arm of a bell-crank lever 13 whose other end may be adjusted by a screwed spindle 14 and a hand wheel 12 or electric motor, to enable the angular position of contact 2 to be varied while disc 6 is rotating. In the arrangement according to Fig. 3, a dog clutch 111, 112 is actuated by a lever 107, attached to a release spring 116, through engage and release levers 103, 114 operated by cams 102, 118 on a rotary disc 101 engaging actuating members 104, 121, the latter of which is adjustable by a bell-crank 120 and screwed spindle 126. Actuation of member 104 lifts the end 105 of lever 103 clear of a stop 106 on lever 107 to allow a spring plunger 108 at the end of a bell-crank 110 operated by a cam 109 to override spring 116 and engage the clutch, while actuation of member 121 lifts a nose piece 115 on lever 114 clear of stop 106 to allow spring 116 to release the clutch.
