Abstract
An age hardening austenitic iron base alloy for jet engine parts consists of: .C.up to 0.1%, .Mn.up to 2.0%, .Si.up to 0.25%, .Cr.14.0 -20.0%, .Ni.20.0 -30.0%, .Mo and/or W.1.0 - 3.0%, .Ti.2.75 - 3.75%, .Al.0.75 - 1.75%, .V.0.1 - 1.0%, .B.0.003 - 0.025%, the ratio of Ti to Al being at least 2 so that the gamma prime phase precipitate formed is stable against transformation to eta phase, and the balance of Fe with impurities such as P, S, N and O. The alloy may be hot worked, solution treated at 1800-1900 DEG F. for 1-2 hours followed by oil or air quenching and ageing or precipitation hardening at 1300-1500 DEG F., e.g. for 16 hours.
