Abstract

Blue azo dyes of general formula <FORM:0985254/C4-C5/1> in which X is halogen and R is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl radical or an alkyl radical having at least one hydroxyl group and, if desired, also an alkoxy group or halogen atom as substituent are prepared by coupling diazotized 2-halo-46-di-nitroanilines with substituted or unsubstituted alpha naphthyl amines. In preparations 1, 2 and 3, diazotized 2-chloro-4,6-dinitroaniline is coupled in para position to alphanaphthyl-ethanolamine, alphanaphthylamine and N-ethyl-alpha-naphthylamine respectively. The dyes are used as disperse dyes for polyester materials.ALSO:The invention provides a process for dyeing polyester materials using a dye of general formula <FORM:0985254/D1-D2/1> in which X is halogen and R is a hydrogen atom or alkyl radical which may contain at least one hydroxyl group and if desired also an alkoxy group or halogen as substituent. The dyeing may be carried out in boiling aqueous solution or under pressure at 125-140 DEG C. or by padding and heat treating at 200 DEG C. Carriers e.g. dichlorobenzene may be present in the dyebath. Fabrics dyed with these dyes have high resistance to dye volatilization during heat treatments.
