Abstract

Diazo dyes of general formula <FORM:1016246/C4-C5/1> in which two of R1, R2 and R3 independentl represent hydrogen, chlorine, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy groups of 1-4 C atoms, and the third of R1, R2 and R3 represents chlorine or a lower alkyl or lower alkoxy group of 1-4 C atoms, are prepared by diazotizing an amine of formula <FORM:1016246/C4-C5/2> in which X is a nitro or acetylamino group, and coupling with a compound of formula <FORM:1016246/C4-C5/3> reducing the nitro group, or hydrolysing the acetylamino group, to an amino group which is diazotized and coupled to a compound of formula <FORM:1016246/C4-C5/4> provided the above restrictions of R1, R2 and R3 apply. Yellow-orange-red colours are obtained on polyester and cellulose acetate materials.ALSO:Polyester and cellulose acetate materials are dyed by treating them with an aqueous dispersion of a disazo dye of formula <FORM:1016246/D1-D2/1> in which two of R1R2 and R3 represent hydrogen, chlorine lower alkyl or lower alkoxy groups of 1-4 C atoms and the third of R1R2 and R3 is a chlorine or a lower alkyl or lower alkoxy group of 1-4 C atoms. The polyester may be dyed at normal temperatures using a carrier or at high temperature under pressure. Cellulose di and triacetates may be dyed at temperatures up to the boil or below. Mixtures of the above dyes themselves or with other disperse dyes may be used. Printing may be effected with conventional assistants.
