Abstract
2,3-Dichlorobutadiene is obtained by reacting ammonia with 1,2,3,4-tetrachlorobutane dissolved in an organic polar solvent, such as dimethyl sulphoxide, dimethyl formamide, formamide, acetone or mixtures thereof. The ammonia may be at substantially atmospheric pressure, preferably with a reaction temperature of 60-80 DEG C., or at superatmospheric pressure. Polymerization inhibitors may be present in the reaction mixture. Specification 951,312 is referred to.ALSO:2,3-Dichlorobutadiene obtained from ammonia and 1,2,3,4-tetrachlorobutane (see Division C2) may be polymerized to a polymer soluble in toluene and which can be cast from a suitable solvent or melt-extruded to form articles such as fibres, filaments and films. In an example, 2,3-dichlorobutadiene in solution in nitrobenzene is polymerized in the presence of azo-bis-isobutyronitrile and the polymer precipitated with methanol. Films prepared from the polymer are said to be of use as moisture vapour impermeable wrapping materials. Specification 951,312 is referred to.
