Abstract

984,685. Hand held vacuum cleaners. J. HANDS, and W. HANDS. Feb. 17, 1964 [Nov. 15, 1962], No. 43163/62. Heading A4F. A hand held electric vacuum cleaner has a two part casing detachably assembled together by threading one part into the other, the one part 1 having a concentric inlet aperture 7 in its base, and housing a removable air permeable dust bag 3 the rim of which makes an air-tight seal with the casing and the other part 2 having a con centric aperture 17 in its base and housing a motor 4 mounted in a cradle 14 anc suction fan 5 drivable off a twelve volt car battery. The rim of the dust bag 3 is held ir contact with the casing 1 by a resilient ring 6. The hose 9 is assembled to the casing 1 by inserting the rigid tapered spigot 10 on one end, into the resilient grommet 8 secured around the aperture 7. In a modification the motor is mounted eccentrically of the fan which is driver off it through a gear train.
