Abstract

984,275. Selective retrieval storage systems. J. A. STIRLING. Dec. 20, 1960 [Sept. 21, 1959], No. 43700/60. Divided out of 984,274. Heading B8E. A turntable 1 (Fig. 2) is mounted in the cage of a lift serving multi-floor mechanical garage or storage system. The turntable may be traversible within the lift cage, and may also move bodily out of the cage as described in Specification 866,107. In the mechanical garage illustrated a turntable platform 4 rotated by an electric motor 5 and ring gear 9 has hinged to it side portions 2, 3 serving as platforms by which the occupants can leave the vehicle. The side portions 2, 3 can be folded upwardly about their hinges by rams 21. The platform 4 can be traversed along rails 30, 31 in the lift cage by a motor 6. Slat or belt conveyers 10, 11, similar to those described in Specification 984,274, are driven by a motor 22 which also provides a drive through a clutch 26 to a take-off shaft for driving similar conveyers on the landings. Driven rollers 23 on the turntable and on the landings bridge the gaps between the conveyers. Two turntables may be provided at different heights in the cage so that it may serve two levels simultaneously.
