Abstract
hydrocarbons boiling in the range 400-750 DEG F. are cracked to lower boiling products in the presence of a C1-C3 alkane and hydrogen, the mol ratio of C1-C3 alkane to hydrocarbon feed being at least one and to hydrogen being more than one, in the presence of a supported platinum-group metal at 50-5,000 p.s.i.g., 650-1,000 DEG F. and 0.05-20 wt./wt./hr. such that there is no net consumption of hydrogen. The ratio of methane, ethane or propane to hydrocarbon feed may be 5-150 : 1 and the ratio of hydrogen to C1-C3 alkane is preferably below 0.3 : 1. The products contain aromatic hydrocarbons.
