Abstract

983,936. Carrier-bags. E. B. SMITH. April 22, 1963 [July 26, 1962], No. 15831/63. Heading A4G. A shopping bag operable from a folded flat condition and having handles 14 on the side walls is provided with a flexible protective cover 19 secured to the inside of a side wall adjacent the open end and extending towards the bottom of the bag a distance greater than the open width between the side walls. The handles are stapled at 16 to a reinforcing strip 17 and the tops of the side walls turned over at 18 to cover the staples. The cover end may be secured to the side wall at a position to form one of the reinforcing strips extending over one of the handle ends. In another embodiment the bag is provided with a liner one end of which is folded back on itself to form the cover and the liner may be of different colour from the bag to show up advertising matter formed by cut outs on the side walls.
