Abstract
983,793. Automatic voltage regulators. A.P.T.ELECTRONIC INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 18,1963 [Oct.19, 1962], No. 39627/62. Heading G3R. Apparatus for supplying a regulated D.C. voltage between output terminals comprises a plurality of series-connected D.C. input sources each of which is associated with an input path the resistance of which is varied periodically between upper and lower limits in dependence upon the sensed output voltage. As shown, three sources S1, S2, S3 are connected effectively in series to supply a load RL, and switches SW1,SW2,SW3 are included respectively in one output lead of the sources, diodes D1,D2,D3 being connected across the switched outputs of the sources. The output voltage at terminals T is applied to an amplifier A for comparison with a reference voltage,and the differential output from the amplifier controls the operation of a modulator M associated with an oscillator 0 and connected to the switch SW1. The output from the modulator switches SW1 on and off periodically, the duration of on and off periods being automatically controlled in dependence upon the output voltage which thus tends to remain constant. Switches SW2 and SW3 are connected so that they operate in unison with the switch SW1. When the switches are in the off condition the stored energy in an inductor L, which acts in association with the diodes D1,D2 and D3,is utilised to maintain the flow of current through the load RL. The switches SW1, SW2, SW3 may comprise transistors.
