Abstract
983,483. Washing machines. CONSTRUCTAWERKE G.m.b.H. Feb. 4, 1964 [Feb. 16,1963], No. 4699/64. Heading D1A. A washing machine of the horizontal axis rotary drum type, in which the washing is boiled while a super-atmospheric pressure is maintained in the drum, has means for maintaining this pressure constant by controlling the heater and regulating the escape of foam and vapour. If the pressure becomes excessive a pressure sensor 22 opens a switch 50 to de-energize a relay 49 and hense switch off heating elements 12a, 12b. There is also provided in the drum an aperture 39, the size of which is controlled by a throttle 40, and through which foam and vapour pass from the machine. Two safety valves may be provided; a detergent feeding aperture 16 may be sealed by a plug 19 which can be forced out by excess pressure, or a frangible zone 52 may be provided in the wall of the drum.
