Abstract

Tetrafluorethylene is prepared by pyrolysing monochlordifluoromethane in contact with one or more molten carbonates of lithium, sodium or potassium, or with one or more of such carbonates and one or more of the corresponding chlorides, at 500-800 DEG C. A dry carrier gas may be used with the CHClF2, e.g. nitrogen or carbon dioxide.
