Abstract

982,696. Building slabs; cavity walls. W. A. SMITH. June 7, 1962 [Aug. 1, 1961; Dec. 29, 1961], Nos. 27816/61 and 46577/61. Headings E1B and E1V. A slab for building a cavity wall is formed on a back face 14 with a continuous edge groove 15, open ended grooves 16, 17 and between these grooves with various embedded anchor members 18 and optionally with further members 30. The slab is of cement, breeze, reconstructed stone, compressed fibres, or clay, with a marble or mosaic facing and the groove 15 is half the width of that of the grooves 16, 17. Apertures in the slab provide ventilation in a cavity wall. In a hollow wall the slabs are joined together across the width of the wall and also in each leaf by bars and reinforcing rods fitted in the anchor members 18 and members 30. Shuttering is inserted in opposed grooves and a concrete framework of horizontal and vertical beams cast into the wall. Specification 982,697 is referred to.
