Abstract

982,667. Binding-posts. HAWKE CABLE GLANDS Ltd. Oct. 17, 1963 [Nov. 10, 1962], No. 42563/62. Heading H2E. A cylindrical conducting body has a recess L tapering towards its mouth into which the bared end of a multi-strand cable core can be introduced and expanded to make contact with the walls of the recess by turning coaxial screw C, by means of a key inserted in socket D, so that its pointed end advances into the core. The tapered hole may be made by boring it initially of cylindrical form and then spinning down the outside surface of the body at that end to a frusto -conical shape, and it may be provided with a shallow helical groove N. The other end of the body may be arranged as a socket, with the provision of radial slots G and an external band or circlip H. Alternatively, when used as a plug, the body may either be bored out to allow access to the screw or it may be shortened and the end of the screw formed with a head to act as a contact. A moisture sealing ring may be used at the mouth of recess N.
