Abstract

982,013. Pot burners. CONTROLS CO. OF AMERICA. Feb. 2, 1962, No. 4205/62. Heading F4T. Combustion apparatus for burning liquid hydrocarbon comprises a vaporizing burner pot A supplied with fuel and having primary air inlet apertures 3 in its side wall 1, and a secondary air supply structure C surmounting the pot and defining a primary mixture outlet D and a plenum chamber 22 from which secondary air is delivered through apertures 42, 46 to the outlet D which is substantially smaller in crosssectional area than that of the pot C. Fuel is supplied to the pot A through a pipe 50 and is vaporized by the heat of combustion in or just above the pot. Primary air entering through apertures 3 mixes with the rising vaporized fuel and is further heated by pinpoints of flame occurring at the low-pressure primary air apertures 19 of an internal sleeve 13. Air for this combustion passes up the tube 11 of a central structure, through apertures 17, 18 to issue from apertures 19. The central structure may be omitted. The secondary air apertures 46 are obscured from the primary mixture by upwardly extending flanges 45 (Fig. 3) positioned inwardly from the walls 40, 41 of the outlet D, so that air leaving the apertures 46 is directed to the base of each jet issuing from the apertures 42. Air for combustion is supplied by a blower connected to a duct 8, the primary air leaving through apertures 3 and 19, and the secondary air travelling via the space surrounding the pot, through apertures 25, 26 to the plenum chamber 22 and leaving through apertures 42, 46.
