Abstract
981,844. Reciprocating pumps. WEATHERHEAD CO. Feb. 19, 1963 [Feb. 23, 1962], No. 6649/63. Heading F1A. [Also in Division G3] The effective displacement of a multi-cylinder, swashplate pump is varied by axial adjustment of the cylinder block 50 to vary the point in the stroke at which the pistons 62 close the inlet ports 57, 58. The block is urged by a spring 97 towards the maximum delivery position, defined by an adjustable stop 212, and in the opposite direction by a servomechanism 107 (see Division G3) under manual control and with an overriding control operative to limit the delivery pressure. A web 44 positioned by snap rings 45, 46 houses the servomechanism and forms an abutment for springs 66 urging the pistons towards the swashplate 38 which is held against rotation by a stud 39 engaging a channel 41 and is oscillated by a rotary drive plate 25. Discharge to an outlet 93 takes place through a reaction piston 75 held by a light spring 82 against a member 79 which carries a check valve 87 loaded by a spring 88 enclosed in a cage 89.
