Abstract
980,266. Pumping liquefied gases. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 1, 1962 [Nov. 1, 1961], No. 39089/61. Heading F1A. A pump 1 draws liquefied gas from a storage vessel through pipelines 7, 2 and a coil 6 enclosed within a cooler 4. Pipeline 8 taps off liquid and passes it to the container 5 of the cooler and a float 12 maintains a constant liquid level. A valve 10 maintains the gas pressure in the container 5 below that in the suction main but above that in the distribution system, consequently the boiling temperature of the liquid in the container 5 is lower than that of the liquid in the pipelines 2, 7 and when the former evaporates it extracts heat from the latter. The container is drained by closing a stop valve 14 which allows the pressure therein to rise above that in the storage vessel and the liquid passes into a pipeline 13 containing a non-return valve 9.
