Abstract

980,181. Hinges; catch fastenings. J. H. DELHASE. May 29, 1961 [June 3, 1960], No. 19344/61. Headings E2A and E2F. A hinge comprises pivotally interconnected brackets 12, 14, Fig. 1, a projecting means consisting of a cylindrical member 28 rotatably mounted on one of the brackets, and a receiving means on the other bracket having a projecting leading edge 22 and a recess 20 adapted to receive the member 28 to hold the brackets releasably in a predetermined relative angular position, one of the projecting or receiving means being made of resilient material and the edge 22 being located in the path of the member 28 so that the resilient material is compressed as the member enters or leaves the recess. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) the receiving means consists of a number of recesses formed in an enlarged portion of the bracket 12 disposed around the pivotal connection with the bracket 14, so that the cylindrical member 28 can hold the brackets in various relative angular positions. In Fig. 4 the projecting means comprises a pair of rotatably mounted resilient ball-like members 52 adapted to snap over the enlarged end 50 of a knob 48 having recesses to receive the members. If desired the members 52 may be rigid and the knob 48 resilient. The resilient material may be rubber or plastics.
