Abstract
977,338. Moles. A. J. STAEMPFLI. Oct. 17, 1961 [Oct. 17, 1960], No. 37235/61. Heading E1H. A mole comprises a plurality of rows of rigid elements 1, e.g. reinforced concrete, each including two jambs 2 and 3 spaced apart at their lower ends and interconnected at their upper ends, the elements in adjoining rows being disposed in staggered relationship and a capping 5, e.g. also of reinforced concrete, which unites the elements to form an integral assembly. As shown in Fig. 1 four rows of staggered elements 1 support a roadway 7 and each element has a projection 12 as an abutment for the next element and a bracing member 4. The jambs 2 and 3 are of U-shaped cross-section and have foot portions 11 which are advantageously concave on their lower face. Further embodiments describe moles having wave-breaking teeth 13 or a bracket to form a gangway or quay and whose jambs may be T-shaped in cross-section. The elements may be spaced well apart and the intervening gap filled with rubbish. An element may be formed from prefabricated parts erected in situ. Specification 977,339 is referred to.
