Abstract
977,248. Transformers. SOC. GENERALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES ET MECANIQUES (ALSTHOM). July 19, 1963 [July 19, 1962], No. 28736/63. Heading H1T. On-load tap-shanging gear comprises two mechanical or electronic switches 4, 5 (Fig. 2) connectible to neighbouring tapping points 1, 2, 3 &c., of a single or polyphase transformer winding, control means to close one switch immediately after the other has opened and circuits including a controlled rectifier 12, 15 and an impedance 14, 17 arranged to by-pass the switches. The impedances may be shunted by controlled rectifiers 13, 16 and may be resistances, chokes or saturable reactors. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) a single impedance 22 is used and is connected between the by-pass circuits at the joining points of the two rectifiers in each such circuit. The rectifiers may be of semi-conductor or thyratron type and, as they operate for very short intervals, may carry currents much higher than the normal rating. The switches may be by-passed for short periods on opening.
