976,910. Motor cycle driving gear. STEYRDAIMLER-PUCH A.G. July 17, 1961 [July 20, 1960], No. 25822/61. Heading B7H. [Also in Division F1] A " swinging arm " for a motor cycle comprises a housing 1 in which is mounted the engine crank-shaft 2 which carries a clutch 3 and a driving sprocket 4 connected by a chain 5 to a sprocket 6 mounted on the input shaft 7 of a change-speed gear which is connected by a spur gear transmission 10 to the wheel-driving shaft 9. A pedal shaft 11 is mounted close to the engine crank-shaft and is connected by a sprocket 12 and chain 13 to a sprocket 14 in coarse-threaded engagement with a bushing 18 freely rotatable upon an extension 7a of the input shaft 7 and having teeth 16 which interengage with teeth 15 on sprocket 15, the arrangement constituting a one-way clutch. In a modification, Fig. 2, the pedal arrangement is replaced by a kick-starter pedal 20 mounted on a shaft 21 mounted in bearings 19 and connected by a toothed segment 24 in meshing engagement with a pinion 23 similarly arranged for one-way clutching engagement with the input shaft of the change-speed gear. The kickstart device has a return spring 22 and the pinion 23 and sprocket 24 are subject to the action of a braking spring 17.
