Abstract
886,847. Engine turning gear. FICHTEL & SACHS A.G. Jan. 1, 1960 [Jan. 3, 1959], No. 63/60. Class 7(5). [Also in Group XXXI] In a vehicle drive and engine turning gear with an infinitely variable and automatically changing V-belt drive, an engine reduction gear and also a starter device, the infinitely variable drive is connected through a clutch, preferably a centrifugal clutch, to the crankshaft, the starter device is connected through a gear wheel which can be coupled to the main shaft, the gear-wheel being connected through a one-way coupling and toothed wheels to the crank-shaft, and the toothed wheels between the coupling, and the crankshaft are situated closer to that side of the gear casing which is remote from the V-belt pulley. When starting from the standstill position the claw coupling 15 is pushed into the chain sprocket 13 by forward movement of the pedal crank. This sprocket drives the toothed wheel 9. The toothed wheel 8 is driven from the wheel 9 and is in mesh with the claw coupling 10 which is connected to the shaft 19. The shaft 19 drives the engine through the free-wheel 18 and gear-wheels 17, 16. The pulley 3 is also driven by the V-belt. The pulley is freely mounted on the crank-shaft. Pedal assistance with the engine running is ensured by the fact that when pedalling forwards the clutch 15 is connected to the sprocket wheel 13 and thus the wheel 9 is additionally driven. The clutch 20 is shifted towards the right and connects the wheel 9 to the main shaft 21. The power from the engine passes through the centrifugal clutch 2 to the V-belt pulley 3 through the V-belt to the pulley 5 and through the toothed wheels 6, 7, 8 and 9 to the main shaft 21. The drive permits pedalling as with a normal bicycle. Braking is effected by back pedalling the spindle 12 whereby the clutch 15 is shifted into the driver bush 22 and actuates the brake lever. A similar arrangement can be used with a kick starter.
