Abstract

976,632. Pneumatic tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. April 18, 1961 [April 28, 1960], No. 13881/61. Heading B7C. A pneumatic tyre comprises a tread reinforcement 26 formed by a strip 27 of parallel rayon, nylon or steel cords which is folded along spaced circumferential lines 28, 29 to a flattened S- section form to provide three layers 30, 31, 32 in the central region and one layer, 33, 34 respectively in each side region of the reinforcement, and a pair of unfolded strips 35, 36 of parallel 90 degrees cords interleaved between the folds of the strip 27 to project laterally beyond the edges 33, 34 respectively of the folded strip to provide gradual transition in stiffness of the reinforcement from the central region towards each edge. The strip 27 has a cord angle preferably in the range 7 to 40 degrees to the circumferential direction.
