Abstract

976,615. Moulding thermoplastic materials. UNION CARBIDE CORPORATION. July 17, 1963 [July 19, 1962], No. 28225/63. Heading B5A. Molten thermoplastic material from an extruder continuously discharging through a nozzle 3 is cut into measured portions by knife blades 6 and deposited in the mould cavities 5 of moulds 4 carried on a continuously rotating table. A measured portion 10, Fig. 3, is moulded by positioning a die 9 in a mould cavity 5 under pressure. The apparatus may consist of moulds with a plurality of cavities in conjunction with a number of nozzles supplied from a single ex truder and the mould table may be fixed with the nozzle or nozzles moving continuously Laminates may be produced by placing a disc or sheet of different material into the mould cavity prior to forming or placing the disc or sheet on top of the measured portion or forming a first portion, putting a disc on top of it and forming a second portion on top of the disc It is suggested that such laminates may be used as crown cap liners.
