Abstract

976, 395. Photographic silver halide materials. KODAK Ltd. Nov. 9, 1960 [Nov. 16, 1959], No. 30183/64. Divided out of 976,394. Heading G2C. The sensitivity of a photographic silver halide emulsion is increased by adding thereto a sulphonic acid ester of a condensation product of an alkylene oxide and a compound containing a pyranose ring system. The emulsions also may contain gold and sulphur sensitizers and antifoggants. Reference is made to the use of the methyl sulphonate esters of polyoxyethylene sorbitan monostearate or mono-laurate and of sucrose derivatives wherein the eight hydroxyl groups are replaced by -O-CH2-CH(CH3)-(OCH2CH2)n-OSO2CH3 groups where the total value of the n's is 30 or 70.
