Abstract
Crystalline olefin polymers are purified by treating the dry polymer substantially free of polymerization solvent at a temperature between 60 DEG and 130 DEG C. with up to 20% by weight with respect to the polymer of an alcohol so as to impregnate but not wet the polymer e.g. by a fluidized bed technique, and then washing the polymer with an aqueous medium. The olefin polymer may be polyethylene, polypropylene, polybutene-1, or polypentene. The polymers may be formed by bulk techniques. Alcohols mentioned are methanol, ethanol, n-propanol, iso-propanol, iso-butanol, sec.-butanol, 2-ethylhexanol, ethylene glycol, and glycerol. The aqueous medium generally contains a surface-active agent such as bis-(2-ethyl-hexyl) sodium sulphosuccinate.
