Abstract

975,614. Paper-making apparatus. DOMINION ENGINEERING WORKS Ltd. April 1, 1963 [Feb. 9, 1963], No. 12798/63. Heading D2A. A headbox 19 of a paper-making machine includes a stock distributer 11, a stock inlet chamber 12 which has a baffle 14 anchored in and extending across the chamber 12, the baffle being movable in and counter to the direction of stock flow about the point of anchorage to different positions of adjustment, and means for securing the baffle in the selected position. The baffle is of flexible material and has a bulbous lip 15 to the ends of which are attached rods which extend through slots in the side walls of chamber 12. Each rod has a ratchet and screw mechanism (Fig. 6 not shown) to adjust its position in its slot, and a cover plate on the inside of the slot to prevent leakage of pulp. Air vents 20 link chamber 12 with headbox 19 which is of the pressurised type. A second adjustable baffle may replace rigid baffle plate 23 while alternatively one or two horizontal baffles, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) may be used instead of the vertical baffle or baffles. In the latter case air vents 20 are replaced by an upwardly sloping top wall of chamber 12.
