Abstract

1443540 Headbox for paper making machine BELOIT CORP 16 Oct 1973 [6 Nov 1972] 48197/73 Addition to 1228248 Heading D2A In an improvement in the apparatus of Specification 1228248, each of the trailing elements 26 is flexible and connected at its upstream edge to a respective substantially rigid plate 25. At least one wall of the slice chamber has an upstream and a downstream portion at an angle to one another to define upstream 19a and downstream 19 portions of the chamber, the elements 26 being wholly disposed in the downstream portion 19 and projecting towards the slice opening 20. As described, each connection between parts 25, 26 may be direct and rigid, (Figs. 2, 4, 5 and 6, not shown) or via a connecting member which is flexible (Figures 7, 8, not shown). The upstream end of each plate 25 is pivotally connected to a transverse member which may comprise a perforate wall (Figures 2 and 5) or a respective plastics rod 27 and may be fixed in position by spacers. The elements 26 are preferably free to be solely responsive to the forces exerted thereon by the stock flowing towards the opening 20.
