974,163. Hydroxylamino-alkylamines; antibiotics. CIBA Ltd. March 28, 1961 [April 8, 1960; Sept. 23, 1960], No. 11393/61. Headings C2A and C2C. The invention comprises compounds of general formula in which R 1 and R 2 each represents hydrogen, a lower alkanoyl, a benzoyl, naphthoyl, phenylacetyl, or benzyloxycarbonyl radical or together they represent phthaloyl, an n is 4-10; physiologically tolerable acid addition salts thereof; and the preparation of 5-hydroxylamino-pentylamine-(1) as in the examples wherein 1-amino- 5-nitropentane hydrochloride is reduced with zinc dust in water, and N-(5-hydroxylaminopentyl)-phthalimide (obtained from the 5-bromocompound and hydroxylamine) is reacted with hydrazine hydrate and then hydrochloric acid. General methods of forming the desired hydroxylamino or NR 1 R 2 groups are mentioned; also salts of the products with metals. 5-Hydroxylamino-pentylamine-(1) may also be obtained by hydrolysis of ferrimycins and ferrioxamines. 1-Phthalimido-5-bromopentane is obtained from potassium phthalimide and dibromopentane (1, 5-diphthalimidopentane being formed as byproduct) and on treatment with silver nitrite yields 1-phthalimido-5-nitropentane; this treated with hydrazine hydrate and then hydrochloric acid yields 1-amino-5-nitropentane hydrochloride. Sideramycins and ferrioxamines are obtained by fermentation in increased yield by adding compounds I to the fermentation broth. Specification 949,958 is referred to.
