Abstract
The invention comprises dyes of formula <FORM:0973885/C4-C5/1> where R1 and R4 are H, Hlg, Alk or OAlk and R2, R3 and R5 are H, Alk or OAlk. The dyes are made in conventional fashion from appropriate monoazo amino diazo and phenolic coupling components. The diazo components are made from appropriate diazotized aniline sulphonamides and aniline coupling components. Preferably the alkyl groups have 1-4 C atoms, the sulphonamide group is in the m or p-position, and R1 is in the o-position, relative to the azo group. Representative of specified components are aniline-4-sulphonic acid diethylamide, aniline - 2 - chloro, - methyl - or - methoxy - 4 - sulphonic acid dimethylamide, aniline 2-methyl-and 3-methyl- and -methoxy-anilines and 2-methyl- and -chloro- and 3-methoxy-phenols. The dyes dye hydrophobic fibres from aqueous suspension in yellow, orange and red shades. Indicated fibres are those of synthetic polyamides, polymerized lactams, cellulose esters, polyacrylonitriles, which may be modified, and polyterephthalic acid glycol esters. The dyes reserve viscose, cotton and wool, the discharge being good when aftertreated with alkali metal dithionites. Lacquers, oils, and synthetic resins may be coloured and the dyes may also be used for the spin-dyeing of artificial fibres, e.g. secondary cellulose acetate or cellulose triacetate. Examples are provided of the preparation of the dyes and their use in dyeing fibres of the above indicated types.
