Abstract
973,605. Rope railways. ROPEWAY & CONVEYOR SERVICES Ltd., and G. F. B. HARVEY. July 10, 1963 [Aug. 8, 1962], No. 30428/62. Heading B7L. A ropeway has a car comprising at least one carriage 11 having a rope grip 14 engaging a moving rope 15, the carriage or carriages 11 support a carrier 12 through pivots 10 with the e.g. of the car above the rope, the or each carriage having a counterweight 22 on an arm 23 of such mass and at such distance below the rope as to ensure stability of the car. Each carriage has two wheels 13 in tandem which bring about automatic release of the cable grip 14 when they run on to a fixed rail at a station. The carrier 12 has a tubular frame 16 and its body work 17 encloses two pairs of seats 18, hinged covers 21 prevent occupants from leaving their seats when the car is moving. The bodywork can extend below and on both sides of the cable 15. Each carriage has wheels running on supporting ropes or rails. The carrier can be used to carry materials.
