Abstract

<PICT:0972620/C6-C7/1> <PICT:0972620/C6-C7/2> A tool electrode 32, 32a, 32b, for use in an electromechanical machining process is itself made by an identical process using a model 28 of the final product as the cathode. The final product may be a turbine blade or a toothed gear. Model 28 may be of metal or of non-conducting material, such as plastic, ceramic or wood provided, by spraying or dipping, with a metallic coating preferably of silver. Separate workpieces for each tooth are moved radially in direction 34 under the control of progamming means 33 such as punched tape or cards which also controls the electrical supply. Flow of electrolyte is controlled by means 36. Subsequently the separate tooth electrodes 32, 32a, Fig. 12, are used as cathodes in an electrochemical machining process to form the final toothed gear 40. The same programme control as for forming the electrodes is used. The tool electrode may be in one piece instead of in segments. Specification 335,003 is referred to.
