972,569. Air heating apparatus. SULZER FRERES S.A. June 25, 1962 [July 26, 1961], No. 24334/62. Heading F4S. A preheater assembly for the combustion air for a steam generator, comprising a steamheated air heater 2 preceding a flue-gas-heated air heater 3, has at least one by-pass duct 4 of adjustable cross-section by-passing the steam-heated air heater 2. As shown, a fan 1 passes air through the steam-heated air heater which has nests of tubes 5 separated by by-pass ducts 4 containing dampers 6 controlled by a rod 8, and through the flue gas heated air heater 3 having flue gas tubes 13, to the steam generator combustion chamber (not shown). The dampers are movable between a fully open position, when the steam generator is working at full load, and a fully closed position, at a predetermined part load, and may also be adjusted to suit the requirements of different types of fuel.
