Abstract
971,137. Administering eye drops. R. W. ROUTSONG. Oct. 10, 1962, No. 38372/62. Heading A5R. A device for the self-administration of eye drops comprises a bridge member which supports a drop dispenser suitably spaced above the eye. In its simplest form it comprises an arcuate bridge member 2, Fig. 1, having flattened portions 1, 3, the former of which is intended to rest on the user's forehead while the latter is held against the cheek. A central hole 5 receives the neck 8, Fig. 2, of a dropping bottle 6 or similar device so that it is spaced a short distance from the eye and is directly above it when the head is tilted back. A hole 4 is provided in the lower limb so that the forefinger of the hand holding the appliance, can be passed through it and used to draw the lower eyelid down. In another form of the device the bridge member is shaped to fit around the bottle for storage while in yet another the bridge is formed in one piece with the upper portion of the medicament container itself. It is further proposed to form the bridge from two arms which are hinged either to the bottle or to a carrying case so that they can lie flat for transit.
