Abstract
969,327. Coated sheet material; gas filters. OZONAIR ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Aug. 17, 1961 [Aug. 22, 1960], No. 29026/60. Headings BIT and B2E. An element for a filter for air or other gases comprises a mass of randomly entangled filamentary material arranged on a reticulated reinforcement, the filaments being secured to one another and to the reinforcement by a binder. The element may be made by arranging a web 10 of reticulated material as a conveyer band passing over a work platform 13, applying e.g. by spraying at 14, to the band, first at binder, and then randomly arranged fibres, and applying further binder e.g. from nozzle 18, to both the fibres and the band to bind them together as at t. The element may be submitted to a curing operation, in oven 20, after the second application of binder. During the second application of binder a current of air, e.g. from nozzle 19, is passed through the fibres to induce even distribution of the fibres and penetration of the binder therethrough. The fibres may be applied to the binder-covered band by gravity from a hopper 16. The binder may be rubber latex, polyvinyl acetate, an alkyd resin, a polyester, or a urea- or phenolformaldehyde condensate. The fibres may be cattle hair, glass fibre or vegetable fibre. The element may be used in roll form, or cut into pads. Specification 969,326 is referred to.
