Abstract

A fibrous body comprises a first outer layer of relatively long glass fibres, an intermediate layer of relatively short glass fibres arranged in individual bundles to form staple glass silk, and a second outer layer of relatively long glass fibres, all the layers being bound together by a binder. The intermediate layer may be treated with a water-soluble binder, preferably 0À6 to 1À2% by weight of binder during its formation to fan out the cut ends of the individual bundles. The outer layers may be of the same or different thickness and in one example they constitute 42% and 8% respectively of the weight of the fibrous body. The binder for the body may be bitumen and the body may be used as a roof covering.
