Abstract
Glutamic acid is recovered from a fermentation medium by adding a zinc salt thereto, adjusting the pH to precipitate zinc glutamate, removing said precipitate of zinc glutamate and forming an aqueous slurry of same, acidifying said aqueous slurry until said zinc glutamate goes into solution and glutamic acid precipitates, and separating said precipitated glutamic acid from said solution. The supernatant remaining after separation of glutamic acid from the acidified solution of zinc glutamate may be recycled to a subsequent fermentation medium and glutamic acid recovered therefrom.
