968,648. Rotary printing apparatus. SCHNELLPRESSENFABRIK A.G. HEIDELBERG. Sept. 14, 1962 [March 27, 1692], No. 35073/62. Heading B6C. A rotary letterpress machine for direct or offset multi-colour printing comprises at least two printing units arranged in series, the cylinders and inking arrangements of the units being of identical construction and the units being so arranged that they are symmetrically disposed with respect to an operating platform therebetween, and are connected by gripper chains passing beneath said platform which is located below the level of the plate, blanket and impression cylinders. In the embodiment shown, an operator stands on the platform 45 and controls the printing of sheets 2 between impression cylinders 8 and 31 and relief plate cylinders 10 and 33 respectively. The sheets are fed along a table 3 by a feed device 1, are transferred by cylinders 6 and 14 via the impression cylinder 8 to grippers 15 on endless chains 16, and are transferred to endless delivery chains 41 by cylinders 29, 37, and 39 via impression cylinder 31. The apparatus may be converted for offset printing.
