Abstract

The printing cylinder of the parent Specification is modified in that the or each roller 8, Fig. 1, has an inverted V-shaped projection 19 and the flexible plate 3 is held in position by springs 20, 21 which are each constrained between a piston 15, connected to the roller 8 by a rod 14, and an inner and wall of an associated cylinder 151, and which exert a radiallyinward force on the roller to thereby clamp and tension the plate 3 through the rails 4, 5. In order to release the plate air is fed through a pipe 22 into the cylinder to overcome the spring pressure and to move the rod 14 towards the peripheral surface of the cylinder 1. The air is introduced into the pipe through the shaft of the cylinder via a supply valve 23 and a handoperated 3-way control cock 24, Fig. 2, which Figure diagrammatically illustrates a fourcylinder press incorporating two plate cylinders of the invention. The valve 23 is so connected to the press control mechanism that during cylinder rotation no air can reach the cock 24, thus preventing inadvertent plate release.
