Abstract
967,173. Electro-mechanical delay lines. CORNING GLASS WORKS. July 8, 1960 [July 17, 1959], No. 23972/60. Heading H3U. An ultrasonic delay line has at least an input facet on a delay medium and a plurality of piezo-electric transducer sections mounted on the delay line facet, the transducer sections being connected in series, and exhibiting a lower input capacitance and a higher radiation resistance than a single one of the transducer sections. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, each transducer section 12a, 12b has top and bottom electrodes associated therewith, the connection 20 in series being between the top electrode 18b of the section 12b and the bottom electrode 16a of the section 12a, input connections 22, 24 being applied to the remaining top and cottom electrodes 18a and 16b, respectively. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, a single transducing element 12 has a pair of separate bottom electrodes 16a, 16b and a pair of separate top electrodes 18a, 18b, the connection 20 in series being between the top electrode 18b of one section and the bottom electrode 16a of of the other section. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, each transducer section 12a, 12b has a top electrode 18a, 18b and is bonded to the facet 14 by a common bottom electrode 16, the transducer sections having opposite polarities and an input connection 22, 24 being applied to each top electrode 18a, 18b. Methods of construction are described. Various natural and artificial piezo-electric materials are referred to.
