Abstract

<PICT:0967087/C3/1> <PICT:0967087/C3/2> <PICT:0967087/C3/3> A liner &c. has at least one bearing layer moulded or formed from a mixture of hard wearing low friction thermoplastic synthetic resin and a polymerized fluorinated hydrocarbon. The thermoplastic synthetic resin may be composed of one of the polyamides such as nylon, or of polyethylenes or of polyurethanes. The polymerized fluorinated hydrocarbon may be P.T.F.E. The mixture is formed into a thin-walled bearing structure of required shape and may be attached, by keying for example, to backing material. The latter constitutes one of the polyamides, polyethylenes or polyurethanes; an elastomer type of material; steel; or thermosetting synthetic resin. The backing material may be flexible. In an embodiment, a ball-joint has half sockets 1, 2, each comprising a bearing layer 1a, 2a and a backing material of nylon, for example, which is moulded to the layer 1a or 2a and is secured by keys 1b. Other embodiments include a bush 9, Fig. 4, made of the mixture and having integral keys 9a thereon, is backed by a sleeve 10 moulded thereon.
